Telehealth

No matter your location, we’ve made sure that you can still get the help you need.

Telehealth

At RAR Therapy, we are always looking for ways to bring our therapy services to as many people as possible. These days, it’s not always necessary to meet face-to-face, and a lot of our services can be accessed through telehealth. It’s a convenient way to access therapy without worrying about travel.

Therapy Made Easy

A lot of people miss out on therapy simply because they cannot travel to their desired appointment destinations. Not everyone has the means, the ability or the time for travel, and telehealth is a way to still get the necessary treatment without having to leave the comfort of your own home.

Our Telehealth Services

Whether you need an occupational therapist, a speech pathologist or even a psychologist, we’ve made sure that you can still get the help you need either through live video connection or sometimes simply over the phone.

Benefits of Telehealth

  • It eliminates the need for travel and associated costs.
  • It expands the choice of service providers and practitioners beyond your local area.
  • It reduces health and safety risks, particularly in cases where exposure to COVID-19 is a concern, or when isolation is necessary.
  • It provides a quicker turnaround time from referral to appointment.
  • It enables continued therapy support in situations where you, your child, a family member, or one of our therapists has a minor health condition (e.g., a cold) or faces other barriers to attending an in-person clinic appointment (e.g., transportation difficulties, work commitments, etc.).
  • It caters to individuals who may prefer non-face-to-face therapy, thus offering treatment opportunities to a wider range of people.
  • It allows children and adults to receive treatment in a comfortable environment, which often facilitates the therapeutic process.

Can You Use Telehealth for Children?

Telehealth services are available for individuals of all ages, and children can greatly benefit from these services compared to traditional face-to-face sessions. One of the main advantages is that children can receive therapy in the comfort of their familiar environment. While phone calls can be sufficient in some cases, video meetings using platforms like Zoom, Skype, or Teams are often preferred. These video sessions run for the same duration as in-person sessions and offer the same benefits.

Depending on your child’s age and the type of therapy required, you will need the following:

  • A quiet and private space without distractions. Remember you’re trying to emulate a face-to-face session, so privacy is of the utmost importance.

  • An adult to assist and support your child with activities, if necessary. This will depend on the age of the child, the type of therapy and the desired outcome. But all of that will be discussed prior to the meeting.

  • A device such as a smartphone, computer, or laptop with audio and camera capabilities, and access to a reliable internet connection.

Tips For a Successful Telehealth Appointment

  1. Treat the telehealth appointment as you would a regular in-person appointment. Be punctual and have any relevant information or documents prepared in advance. Set up your equipment early to be ready for the session start time.

  2. If the appointment is for your child, have a conversation with them beforehand to explain what to expect. For younger children, reassure them that you will be present throughout the session. For older children, ask if they prefer your presence or if they would like to participate independently.

  3. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and take notes during the appointment.

  4. If you are not familiar with the technology, feel free to request a brief tutorial from your therapist on how to set everything up before the appointment.

  5. If your child has a favourite toy or activity at home, keep it nearby during the session as it may be helpful for engagement.

  6. Clarify what will happen after the session ends. Will there be a follow-up appointment? Are there any tasks or actions required from you in the meantime?
