RAR Therapy Emerald

Emerald lies on the Nogoa River, a tributary of the Fitzroy river. Close to three hundred kilometres inland from the Coral Sea, the land’s traditional owners – the Gayiri people – occupied these lands for thousands of years prior to European settlement. While the Gayiri region covers the landscape of the Central Highlands region, the Kairi language was spoken by the First Nations people that used the fertile region for hunting, sourcing plant based foods and more.

At its core, Emerald is a thriving rural service centre with a rural training college, a large number of farm machinery sales outlets, a huge irrigation dam and even an airport.

As Emerald is three hours inland from Rockhampton, this unique township is not only located in the heart of the Gemfields, but also supports some of the biggest mining outposts anywhere in Australia. In addition, residents will almost collectively agree that this pocket of the nation is proud to be ‘cattle country’, and is the regional epicentre for those that live and work on the neighbouring beef stations that also populate the area.
